In order to further the goals of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State and IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board) are pleased to introduce The Careers for Alumni in Public Service (CAPS) Project. The purpose of the program is to involve Muskie alumni in the public service sector in their home communities, utilizing the training and education they received in the United States as well as to encourage alumni to contribute to under-funded institutions in need of their skills and expertise. Muskie alumni who meet the eligibility requirements listed in this application may receive a stipend of up to $750 per month for a period of up to six months while remaining committed to public service work in their home communities.
Please note that unlike in previous years, all Muskie alumni are now eligible to apply.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to receive the CAPS stipend, the applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a Muskie alumnus/a in good standing
- Currently live and work in one of the 12 participating countries of Eurasia
- Have secured employment or a volunteer position with an organization dedicated to public service at the time of application
- Further the public service goals established during the Muskie program by conducting work in one of the following:
o A registered local non-governmental Organization (NGO)
o A government agency
o A charitable branch of a for-profit organization
o A public institution such as a public school, university, hospital or clinic
NOTE: The Fall 2010 Round of CAPS has been announced. Applicants must provide two copies of their application and employer statement to IREX/Georgia office no later than 5.00 p.m. September 24, 2010.
